Eye Ball !

If you toss this foam-covered ball skyward, an accelerometer inside determines when it has reached its maximum height. At that moment, 36 cameras are triggered simultaneously, creating a mosaic that can be downloaded and viewed on a computer as one spherical panoramic image. The ball was created by researchers at the Technische Universität Berlin after one of them, Jonas Pfeil, labored to create panoramas while on vacation in Tonga. On that trip, he tried a cumbersome process that required snapping pictures in different directions and stitching them together later in a photo-editing program. Now he hopes to license the camera-ball technology for commercial production.

A. Outer Shell
The sphere, about the size of a softball, is protected by blocks of foam. Thirty-six cell-phone camera modules, each with a resolution of two megapixels, are set into the surface. Each module stores its portion of the mosaic until it is transferred to the ball’s micro-controller.

B. Inner Shell
The prototype’s inner shell, made from a strong yet somewhat flexible nylon material, gives the ball structural strength. The shell was made using a 3-D printing service.

C. Power Source
The ball’s power source, a relatively heavy lithium-polymer battery, is secured in an inner cage to keep its center of gravity close to its geometric center so that it behaves predictably when thrown.

D. Micro-controller
A micro-controller uses data from an accelerometer to determine when to trigger the cameras. Then it stores the resulting mosaic of images. The prototype can store one mosaic, but it has a hardware slot for a memory card that could store additional panoramas.

E. Panorama
Images are uploaded to a personal computer via a USB connection. Software on the computer allows panoramas to be rotated or enlarged, and portions can be exported as 2-D images.

Effective Tips To Get Rid Of Black Knees And Elbow

Getting rid of dark body areas is not only for a lady’s aesthetic purpose, but also for her self-confidence issues.

Sporting discoloured knees and elbows during the cold weather isn’t a big problem, because no one will see them while you’re wearing your thick sweaters and pants.

The fuss arises during summer, when ladies like you look great when wearing short sleeved or spaghetti strapped blouses, swimsuits and summer dresses. Likewise, girls who wear cocktail dresses and aren’t afraid to wear above-the-knee outfits always rock parties and social gatherings. You can easily get rid of these dark knees and elbows using various home remedies. The home remedies should be based on exfoliation and bleaching of the skin.
The Power of Lemon
Lemon and other strong citrus fruits can help you achieve whiter knees and elbows in two to four weeks.
There are two methods to whiten dark knees and elbows using lemon. First, you may cut the lemon into four parts and rub each lemon slice directly onto the dark area for 3 to 5 minutes. Do not rub vigorously, but make sure that you rub firmly and thoroughly, covering all of the skin on your knees and elbows.
The second way is to get fresh lemon juice using a juicer or blender and apply the juice onto the knees and elbows twice a day. Use cotton to apply the lemon juice so that your skin won’t be irritated.

Other Home Remedies

1. Baking Soda
Baking soda is very effective in cleaning the skin and reduces darkening of the skin. Milk bleaches and cleanses the skin

• Take one tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with milk
• Apply this paste on knees and elbows and scrub it using circular motion.
• Repeat the remedy once every two days. Repeat until you notice changes in the color.

2. Turmeric , Honey And Milk
Turmeric has antiseptic properties and milk act as bleach. Honey moisturizes the dry skin and also has antiseptic properties. These natural properties of the ingredients will help to get rid of black elbows and knees.

• Mix some turmeric with milk and honey to make it a smooth paste
• Apply it on the dark areas and leave it there for at least 20 minutes
• Wet your hands and rub it for 2 minutes and then wash it off with water

3. Lemon And Honey
Lemon juice has natural bleaching property and honey moisturizes the skin preventing darkening of the skin. Repeat this remedy at least thrice a week to get better results

• Take the juice of one lemon and mix it with one tablespoon of honey.
• Apply the mixture of lemon and honey on the affected areas and leave the mixture to act for at least 20 minutes.
• Wash the mixture off with water to get the lightened skin.

4. Gram Flour And Lemon

Gram flour can cleanse the area and also provides mild exfoliation. Lemon is a natural bleach and this will help to reduce the darkness.

• Add some lime juice to gram flour to make it damp.
• Apply the mixture and rub in circular motion, allow it to dry and wash it off to get light colored skin.

How to Take Care of your eyes while using Pc or Laptop

$

During a recent visit to an optician, one of my friend was told of an exercise for the eyes by a specialist doctor that he termed as 20-20-20. It is apt for all of us, who spend long hours at our desks, looking at the computer screen.

I Thought I'd share it with you.

20-20-20

Step I :-

After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Step II :-

Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.

Step III :-

Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body.

Circulate among all if you care. They say that your eyes are mirrors of your soul, so do take care of them, they are priceless......

Apple iPhone 5 Release Rumors Siri Likely to get Upgrade with iOS 6

The current focus of iPhone 5 rumors surround the phone's release date and anticipated new design, but few people are talking about the iPhone 4S's favorite feature: Siri. Tech analysts from the iOS 6 News Blog predict that the new iOS 6 operating system, which is expected to be released ahead of the iPhone 5, will bring with it an even more sophisticated voice recognition system.
An upgrade to Siri could possibly mean a better developed interface. Rumors suggest the feature will be activated by simply shaking the phone and website search, navigation and social media sharing will all be possible through a simple voice command. When Apple launched Siri with the iPhone 4S last October, the voice recognition system was touted for its understanding of connotation ad meaning, making it a far more intelligent entity than simple voice recognition.
The feature is expected to be developed further in the coming year in an aim to rival conventional search engines like Google, with an intelligent voice assistant alternative. Apple's iOS 6 software is expected at the Worldwide Developers Conference, where the iOS 5 software was revealed last year.

How does the "Reserve Petrol Tank" Work In Bikes?

$
0
0
In Most of the Bikes,we have a provision for RESERVE TANK  to help the rider to go to nearest fuel station when the main tank runs out of fuel. Some might misunderstand that reserve tank is a separate tank.

But actually, your main Petrol tank and your reserve petrol tank are the same tank. The only thing that differentiates 'main' from 'reserve' is which standpipe is being used to collect fuel. When your petcock is toggled over to 'Main,' a taller standpipe is being used, and so when the petrol gets below the level of this taller standpipe, the bike putters out and dies. Then when you switch over to 'Reserve,' a shorter standpipe is used to draw fuel from the tank. Thus, the bike will start up and run for a while longer.
Here's a crude little picture I made to show how this works:

This provision is used in bikes which do not have fuel gauges to show fuel levels. The reserve capacity of a fuel tank may vary from 10-20% depending on the manufacturer.

We can calculate mileage of a bike by measuring the reserve to reserve distance traveled and fuel consumed.Mileage depends on various parameters of which the road traveled is one.

What Exactly Is a Petcock?

The petcock is a 3-position valve that changes the fuel source. The 3 positions are Off (switch is pointed towards the back of the bike), On (switch is pointed straight down), and Reserve (switch is pointed toward the front of the bike). The fuel petcock is located on the left side of the bike, about where your left knee would be while riding, above the frame, hanging off of the petrol tank. The lever is shown in each of the 3 positions below:

Petcock In On Position
Petcock In Off Position
Petcock In Reserve Position

The petcock also contains a secondary valve that is vacuum activated. Fuel can only flow when there is a vacuum from the left carb. applied to the nipple on the bottom of the petcock. Fuel exits from the nipple on the back of the petcock.
  • blue line traces fuel flow from reserve
  • red line traces fuel flow in normal position
  • fuel exits back of petcock while vacuum line connects to bottom of petcock

Image:Petcock_assembly.jpg

What is the "Off" Position Used For?

Any time your bike is going to be parked for more than an hour, you should switch the petcock to 'Off,' according to our beloved FOG. The petcock is somewhat failure prone. If the petcock is left 'On,' and it is leaky, then it may leak fuel into the carburetors, and then, imperfect float valves in the carburetors will leak fuel into the engine, through the intake valves, and into the crankcase. Which is bad. Turning the Petcock 'Off' when you're not riding is a safety measure which may prevent this from happening if your petcock develops a leak.
This video shows how to disassemble the petcock for a rebuild:

Out Of Petrol: Two Final Notes

Two final notes on running out of petrol:
First of all, here's a scenario that has happened to most of us. You're out riding, minding your own business, on 'Main,' when all of a sudden your bike putters out and dies. No big deal, right? Switch over to reserve, and crank it to be on your way. But the bike won't start.... 2 minutes later, all of a sudden it starts up properly and you're off. Why the delay?
When you run completely out of petrol while on 'Main,' the carburetors are sucked dry of fuel. It takes a little bit of time (or a little bit of cranking the bike) to get fuel sucked back through the carburetors. So next time you run completely out of petrol, just sit for a few minutes before you get worried, and then once you've given the fuel a few minutes to get through all the petrol lines, through the carburetors, and to your engine, you'll be good to go.
And, lastly, another scenario that has hit an unfortunate few of us. You're riding. Hit reserve, switch over, keep riding, no big deal. But there are no petrol pump (bunk) in sight. Finally you burn up all the fuel in 'Reserve' and you're still not to a petrol pump (bunk). Well, don't panic just yet. Often there is a little bit of leftover petrol which is not accessible to your Reserve standpipe, because it is on the other side of a hump in the petrol tank. Lean your bike as far over to the left as you can without dropping it (that should be, really really far), and then go back vertical again. If you're lucky, you'll now be able to make it a few more miles, and if you're really lucky, you might even make it to a petrol pump (bunk). The below image depicts this 'leftover petrol.'

I recently had the popular problem of Windows 7 battery manager malfunctioning and not charging my battery when plugged in.  The battery was fine, the power supply was fine, and the motherboard was fine (I have enough laptops with the same specs in the Headspring office, and I was able to swap out parts to isolate the problem).
I also searched for this problem online, and many folks are having this problem with all makes of laptop computers.  I found the steps that solved my problem here on the TechNet forums.
There are multiple solutions proposed, and here are the steps that fixed it for me:
  1. Disconnect AC
  2. Shutdown
  3. Remove battery
  4. Connect AC
  5. Startup
  6. Start--> type "device" --> Device Manager --> Batteries or WinKey+R --> type devmgmt.msc and hit enter to get the Device Manager.
  7. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s ok if you only have 1).

8. Shutdown
9. Disconnect AC
10. Insert Battery
11. Connect AC
12. Start-up.

FIXED !

Please comment if this fixes your problem so that others can solve their problem sooner.  I was surprised at how many people were having this problem with Windows 7.

Did you ever wonder why people eat popcorn in the cinema?

Photo: Did you ever wonder why people eat popcorn in the cinema?

With the arrival of talking movies and the Great Depression, popcorn suddenly exploded, so to speak. Anybody could afford it with prices as low as five cents a bag, and vendors could get a space inside or outside a theater to give moviegoers a snack on their way into the theater.

Soon popcorn became a major cash cow for theater owners, who could spend $10 for a hundred pounds of kernels and sell over a thousand bags. Most popcorn was generated by hand at first, but during the labor shortage of World War II (which also saw sugar rationing that cut out popcorn's main competitor, candy bars), mechanical harvesting made popcorn faster and easier to make.

The study, in the current issue of the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, has important implications for understanding overeating and the conditions that may cause people to eat even when they are not hungry or do not like the food.

Lead author David Neal said: 'When we’ve repeatedly eaten a particular food in a particular environment, our brain comes to associate the food with that environment and makes us keep eating as long as those environmental cues are present.'

The researchers also gave popcorn to a control group watching movie clips in a meeting room, rather than in a cinema.
In the meeting room, a space not usually associated with popcorn, it mattered a lot if the popcorn tasted good. Outside of the cinema context, even habitual movie popcorn eaters ate much less stale popcorn than fresh popcorn, demonstrating the extent to which environmental cues can trigger automatic eating behaviour.
